DANIEL J.D. BAYARD
About the Author
Daniel Jean-Dominique Bayard is an award-winning author and magazine columnist specializing in Caribbean history. He is the author of the acclaimed six-book series Triumph to Tragedy on Hispaniola, beginning with the colony of Saint Domingue, followed by the Haitian Revolution, the unification of Hispaniola, and the revolution of the Dominican Republic.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and raised in the United States, Mr. Bayard developed a deep fascination with the Caribbean while researching his family’s ancestors—tracing lineage back to the 17th century. His work explores the region’s layered history, including Saint Domingue (the colonial precursor to Haiti) and Ayiti, the indigenous Taíno name meaning “land of mountains.”
The Adventures of the Indiantown Cousins are his newest installments of Caribbean history and adventure. Marking his first foray into Young Adult fiction, the novels are written for teen readers—while remaining enjoyable for audiences of all ages.
Mr. Bayard is married with 4 children and blessed with 6 grandchildren.
WRITING STYLE
Bayard writes with tense, urgent energy and vivid, sensory imagery, using third-person-limited POV to stay locked on mood shifts from adventure to desperation.
Accessible yet evocative language blends everyday speech with nautical terms and frequent metaphors, while sentence length and pacing tighten during danger—short, forceful lines and rapid dialogue heighten scenes, and calmer stretches slow down for atmosphere.
Overall, the style balances character-driven growth with escalating action, grounded by regional details and a rich historical backstory.
